Setup for Email Alarm Notification

Hi, I am testing the PresenTense Time Server demo.  I am trying to setup the email alarm, but there is no place for me to input the mail account user name, password.  I can only enter the SMTP server.  Then after I disconnect the time source, there is no email alarm I can receive.

Anyone can give me some advises?  THanks.

Re: Setup for Email Alarm Notification

The current version supports only smtp, that is to say without any authentication. Unfortunately this means that you will need to set up a smart host on your network if you don't have an internal smtp server.

Version 4.0 of PresenTense Time Server has smtp auth (all types). In the beta versions we have seen, it is already working.

Re: Setup for Email Alarm Notification

Thanks for your quick reply.  I installed a smtp server in my computer and verified that I can send email with outlook using it.  I enter "localhost" in the setting screen's smtp server box.  Then I tried to remove the GPS receiver, still I can't get any email alarm.  Is there any other settings?

Thanks.

Re: Setup for Email Alarm Notification

Do the PresenTense Time Server logs show any errors?
Does your smtp server logs show any connections?
Have you tried 127.0.0.1 as the IP address rather than localhost?

Re: Setup for Email Alarm Notification

The PresenTense Time Server log shows "Unable to send alarm messages, smtp server error". I can't see any connection in the smtp server also.  I have tried both 127.0.0.1 and localhost. any idea?

Re: Setup for Email Alarm Notification

Does your SMTP server show any log entries when you connect using Outlook?

Re: Setup for Email Alarm Notification

no, there is no entry in the smtp server.. Seems that the PrsenTense Time Server cannot connect to the smtp server.  I have tried to use the default port 25 and also other ports.  All give same results.

Re: Setup for Email Alarm Notification

I would suggest getting logging operational on your SMTP server to see why it's rejecting the connection. You said in an earlier post that you can send when you use Outlook. Is this running on the same machine? If not, you may want to investigate if there is a firewalling issue (windows firewall or a third party firewall/antivirus).
